How the SNGPL Bill Calculator Works
SNGPL gas billing is not calculated simply by multiplying the number of meter units by a single price. The meter reading is first converted into standard gas volume and then into energy measured in MMBTU.
The calculator first subtracts your previous reading from the current reading. It then applies the pressure factor to estimate standard cubic metres.
The standard volume is converted into HM³ and then into MMBTU using the GCV entered by the user.
The resulting MMBTU is then multiplied by the applicable tariff rate according to the selected domestic consumer category and consumption slab.
SNGPL Bill Calculation Formula
1. Calculate Meter Units
Current Reading − Previous Reading = Meter Units
2. Calculate Standard Cubic Metres
Standard CM = Meter Units × Pressure Factor
3. Convert to HM³
HM³ = Standard CM ÷ 100,000
4. Calculate MMBTU
MMBTU = HM³ × GCV ÷ 281.7385
This MMBTU formula is shown on an actual SNGPL bill. :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}
SNGPL Domestic Gas Tariff
The following protected-category rates are shown on an SNGPL bill for gas rates effective from July 1, 2025.
| Slab | Usage | Rate per MMBTU |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Up to 0.25 HM³ | Rs. 200 |
| 2 | Up to 0.50 HM³ | Rs. 250 |
| 3 | Up to 0.60 HM³ | Rs. 300 |
| 4 | Up to 0.90 HM³ | Rs. 350 |
SNGPL's bill also states that a preceding-slab benefit is available to domestic consumers, except consumers above 4 HM³. :contentReference[oaicite:3]{index=3}
Protected vs Non-Protected SNGPL Consumers
Your consumer category can have a major effect on the gas tariff and fixed charges applied to the bill.
A Protected consumer generally receives the lower domestic tariff structure. The SNGPL bill example used for this calculator shows Rs. 600 fixed charges for the Protected category. :contentReference[oaicite:4]{index=4}
If your bill shows Non-Protected status, select the Non-Protected option in the calculator. The applicable tariff structure is different and results in a higher estimated bill at the same consumption.
SNGPL Bill Calculator FAQs
What is an SNGPL bill calculator?
An SNGPL bill calculator estimates your monthly gas bill from meter readings and billing information such as GCV, pressure and consumer category.
How do I calculate SNGPL gas consumption?
Subtract the previous meter reading from the current meter reading. The resulting meter units are then converted into standard volume and HM³ for billing calculations.
What is GCV on an SNGPL bill?
GCV means Gross Calorific Value. It represents the energy content of the gas and is used when converting gas volume into MMBTU.
What is the SNGPL pressure factor?
The pressure factor is used to adjust the measured gas volume to standard conditions. Your SNGPL bill normally displays the pressure and factor used for that billing period.
Is this SNGPL bill calculator exact?
It is an estimate. The official SNGPL bill can contain additional adjustments, arrears, rebates, minimum charges, billing-period adjustments and other items that may not be known from the calculator inputs.
Why is my actual bill different?
Your official bill may use exact billing days, GCV, pressure factor, tariff treatment, fixed charges, meter rent, taxes, arrears and other adjustments. Therefore an online estimate may not exactly match the final payable amount.
